Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
This picture of me was taken before the Christmas bombings of “industrial” targets in North Vietnam in 1972. Nearly 2,000 civilians were killed during this ten-day campaign of destruction, after which the North Vietnamese government agreed to return to the Paris Accords negotiating table. Nixon claimed he’d bombed the enemy into submission. Three years and millions of deaths and millions more displaced from their homes later, the War came to a disgraceful end as the U.S. retreated. On this Christmas, I’m feeling lucky and grateful to have been born into the privilege that allowed me to be blissfully unaware and protected from the horrors of war and to live a flourishing life. I wish that for all the children of the world.
